Dhaka, July 27: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that government officials and employees will work as servants and not rulers of the people. Instructing the administration to ensure that none of the country's senior citizens are excluded from vaccination, she said they would be rewarded for good deeds as well as punished for bad ones.

"Vaccines have already been bought and distributed. Vaccines should be given extensively so that everyone in the country is safe. In the meantime, I have instructed that not only the families of the front line fighters, but also those who work in their homes should be vaccinated. In that, everyone will be safe," the Prime Minister said.

"We will spend as much money as it takes to buy as vaccines as needed and we will make vaccines in Bangladesh so that people do not have any problem," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing a function to celebrate 'National Public Service Day' and award 'Public Administration Medal 2020 and 2021' as the chief guest on Tuesday morning. She took part in a virtual event at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium via video conference from Ganobhaban.

"About 18.7 million people have already been vaccinated. No elderly person in Bangladesh will be excluded from vaccination. We will continue to purchase this vaccine for everyone from students to teachers. We must make sure that everyone gets vaccinated," Sheikh Hasina said.

"The development that has taken place in a short span of time and the transformation of Bangladesh from a least developed country to a developing country today is due to the sincere efforts of each and every one of our government officials and employees. The country has improved because the plans we have taken have been successfully implemented and the people have reaped the benefits," she said while thanking everyone involved.

The Prime Minister quoted the speech of the Father of the Nation which he had delivered on the occasion of Police Week on January 10, 1975 and called upon the public administration officials and employees to serve the people.

The Prime Minister unveiled the covers of two commemorative books written by government officials on the initiatives taken by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the development of administration.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque distributed gold medals, checks, crests and certificates among the winners of Public Administration Medal for 2020 and 2021.
