Dhaka, November 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lauded the press for talking about the 1977 army killings and said her government will take the matter seriously, while speaking to reporters at a press conference on the World Climate Conference and her visit to France at Ganobhaban on Wednesday (November 17).

Sheikh Hasina said, "It is not yet known how many people have been killed since 1975. I have visited many families. Talked to them. I heard their screams." She said no one still knows how many people were killed in prisons in 1977. "No one has talked about these so far. Now that you're talking about it, it's good. I myself am a victim of such coup."

Asked if she will take any special steps regarding the treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad, PM Hasina said, "I have allowed Khaleda Zia to stay at home from jail, I have given her medical treatment, isn't that enough?"

Referring to the assassination attempt on Kotalipara in Gopalganj in 2001, the Prime Minister said, "When Allah saves you, no one can do any harm. And when Allah harms you, none can save you. I my case, Allah saved me."

Throwing a counter question at journalists, the Awami League chief said, "If someone had killed your family, and if someone had rewarded the killer without trial and given him a job in different embassies, what would you have done?"

Recalling the grenade attack on August 21, the Prime Minister said, "After the grenade attack, Khaleda Zia said, I went to commit suicide with grenades in my vanity bag. So many of us were injured in the grenade attack, 22 died, they did not allow a single day to discuss the issue in Parliament."

"We are not inhuman," she said. "I arranged for her stay and treatment with my executive authority. The rest is legal matters."

"I showed humanity to that inhuman (Khaleda). I have shown as much as I can get my hands on. And how much do you want, now she is sick; I told you, God forbid, who cares. Keep that in mind. I have nothing to do here. I told you already, when Allah saves you, no one can do any harm. And when Allah harms you, none can save you."
