Dhaka, Sept 15: The government has taken into consideration the joint proposal of the European Parliament regarding the deterioration of the human rights situation in Bangladesh. The government is seeing this as propaganda and conspiracy against Bangladesh.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam said these things in a press conference organized on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the participation of the Prime Minister in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Minister of State explained to take into consideration the joint proposal of the European Parliament.

He said, on the one hand, I will take it into account, because it is propaganda against Bangladesh. Conspiracy against Bangladesh. If there is any such activity, we cannot close our eyes and sleep. From that interest, from that intervention; I will definitely take it.

On the same issue, however, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said not to be taken into account.

He said that the members of the European Parliament have discussed, there is no authority for the logistics. It is not a mandatory.

A joint resolution of the European Parliament on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the deterioration of the human rights situation in Bangladesh. According to the resolution, the human rights situation in Bangladesh has seriously deteriorated, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, freedom of expression and workers' rights.

Shahriar Alam said, eight people gave a statement. Two of them made it clear that they were not in favor of it. One also said that such behavior could incite new colonialism from the European Parliament and that such behavior on developing countries is not right. Another speaker said such an initiative from the European Parliament could backfire.

The Minister of State said, in the line that several speakers have said, I hope that other MPs of the European Parliament will not be provoked in this matter. We have, we think, a mature relationship with the EU. From the place of that mature relationship, we hope that the European Parliament will not interfere in any of our internal affairs.

The European Parliament's joint resolution called on the government to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all charges brought against the human rights group's representatives and to reinstate the organization's registration. In this context, Shahriar Alam said, we believe that the European Parliament will not interfere with the rights editor Adilur Rahman. Because the matter is pending in court. The European Council will not take into account such activities.
