Govt procuring modern and up-to-date weapons for armed forces: PM

Dhaka, December 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is procuring modern and up-to-date combat weapons for each force to build a professional and strong armed force.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that her government is professional.

She said, “We are procuring modern and timely weapons for every force. We are working to make the armed forces professional and strong as per the plan of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the Chief Guest at the 'Presidential Parade-2022' organized on the occasion of the commissioning of the 83rd BMA Long Term Course at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) Parade Ground in Bhatiari, Chittagong on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said, "To strengthen the country's defense system, we have established 17 infantry divisions in Sylhet, 10 infantry divisions in Ramu and 7 infantry divisions in Barisal. In the last 4 years, 3 brigades and 58 small and large units have been established under different formations. Sheikh Russell cantonment has recently been established in Mawa-Jazirate and new cantonments are underway in Mithamin, Rajbari and Trishal. Construction of Army Aviation Forward Bases at Chittagong and Cox's Bazar and Aviation School at Lalmonirhat is also in progress."

She said, "We have added new composite brigade and para commando brigade in the army. Sophisticated and up-to-date weapons are being procured for each force."

Earlier, when the Prime Minister arrived at the BMA parade ground, she was received by the Chief of Army Staff, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC), Bangladesh Army Chittagong Area Commander and 24th Infantry Division GOC and BMA Commandant.
