Dhaka, May 15: Although the number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the country has decreased, the government is not relieved. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled the city to the villages in the days leading up to Eid, despite ongoing government lockdowns and inter-district transport closures to prevent coronary infections and deaths. The Prime Minister, pathologists and health experts, however, called for staying in their respective positions instead of going to the villages this Eid. However, the common people did not respond to it.

Ignoring the social distance and hygiene rules, people have returned home in private cars, buses, CNG-powered autorickshaws, motorcycles, trucks and even garbage trucks. This is the concern of pathologists and health experts as well as the government.

On the day of Eid on May 14 (Friday), the Director General of the Department of Health visited the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital and advised those who had gone home before Eid to return home. According to experts, the infection will not spread rapidly if the crowds are gradually avoided.

Prof. Dr. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Director General, Department of Health, said that Corona Dedicated Hospitals across the country, including the capital, have adequate number of common beds, ICU, ICU equivalent beds, high flow nozzle cannula, oxygen concentrate. However, the hospital also has limitations in medical management. If people return to the village in the same way as before Eid, the rate of infection and death may increase after a while.

Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said the community centers in Dhaka city would be used for corona treatment if the situation worsens.

An analysis of regular press releases from the Department of Health found that just one month ago (April 14), 24 hours before the first Ramadan, the number of new coronavirus patients in the country was 5,185. At the same time, 96 people died due to Covid-19.

One month later, in the 24 hours before Eid-ul-Fitr on May 14, the number of new patients was 864, the number of deaths was 26 and 852 patients recovered. Between April 14 and May 14, a total of 76,365 people were infected, 2,115 died and 1,29,172 were cured.
