Gulistan explosion: Another injured dies, death count touches 21

Dhaka, March 9: Another person, who was injured in Siddique Bazar building explosion in Dhaka's Gulistan, has died, taking the death toll to 21.

The injured person died on Wednesday (March 8) night while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Ayub Hossain, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery confirmed the matter and said that the name of the deceased is Md. Musa (45), he is a resident of Ghazaria upazila of Munshiganj. 98 percent of his body was burnt in the blast.

A total of 12 people were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Tuesday in connection with the explosion, among whom several are said to be in critical condition.

On Tuesday at around 4:50 pm, there was a massive explosion in the seven-storied building known as Queen Sanitary Market in Siddiqbazar near the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan, Dhaka. The basement, first and second floors of that building collapsed, and two more multi-storied buildings on both sides of that building were damaged.

In this incident, the Dhaka district administration confirmed the news that 18 people were killed, and three people were reported missing.

Two more bodies were recovered on Wednesday afternoon. More than half a hundred people injured in the blast are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.
