Gulistan Explosion Gulistan explosion: Death toll reaches 20 as search operations underway
Dhaka, March 8: The death toll in the Siddique Bazar explosion has risen to 20 as rescue workers recovered two more bodies from the debris on Wednesday evening.
It is reported that the bodies of two people were recovered at around 4:45 pm on Wednesday.
A massive explosion took place in the seven-storied building known as 'Queen Sanitary Market' in Siddique Bazar near the BRTC bus counter in Dhaka's Gulistan at around 4:50 pm on Tuesday.
It destroyed the basement, first and second floors of the building, and damaged two nearby multi-storey buildings. The Dhaka district administration yesterday confirmed the news that 18 people had been killed, and three people were reported missing.
Today (Wednesday) morning, the fire service personnel resumed the rescue operation. During the search and rescue operation, the bodies of two others were recovered in the afternoon.
More than half a hundred people injured in the blast are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital. The condition of several of them is said to be critical.
