Hamid and Rajapaksa want to exchange experiences between the two countries

Dhaka, March 21, 2021: President Abdul Hamid and visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa are emphasizing on exchanging experiences in the socio-economic development of the two countries. The two leaders emphasized the issue in a courtesy call at Bangabhaban on Saturday (March 21).

The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit to attend a function marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence. On the last day of the visit, Mahinda Rajapaksa paid a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid.


At the same time, praising the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, Mahinda Rajapaksa said, Bangladesh is moving forward on the path of rapid development. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh can contribute to the socio-economic development of the two countries by sharing their respective development experiences.

Welcoming the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, the President said Bangladesh and Sri Lanka share similar views on various issues in various regional and international forums. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have made significant progress in the areas of information technology, agriculture, health, education, tourism and services. The exchange of experiences between the two countries will create more opportunities for the development of these sectors. He called on investors in both countries to come forward.


President Abdul Hamid said about 30,000 Sri Lankan workers in Bangladesh work in various productive and service sectors. Through this, they are contributing to the economic development of the two countries as well as increasing people-to-people contacts. He added that many Sri Lankan students study in the medical and engineering sectors in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is ready to provide educational opportunities to more Sri Lankan students.


Highlighting various aspects of Bangladesh's socio-economic development, President Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh is making rapid progress in various sectors. In the meantime, it has received a final recommendation to move from a least developed country to a developing country. He called upon Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to identify potential investment sectors and take joint action to harness them.


Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Sri Lankan Education Minister GI Paris were present. Relevant officials of the two countries were also present.
