Health Directorate stops all surgeries at Central Hospital

Dhaka, June 17: As the quality of ICU and emergency services is not satisfactory, the operation theater of the capital's Central Hospital has been declared closed. It will remain closed until further instructions.

The Department of Health announced this on Friday. This announcement was made after the inspection team formed by the Department of Health in view of the medical complaints of the victim Mahbooba Rahman Ankhi.

In the directive signed by Director of Hospital and Clinic Branch of Directorate of Health, Dr. Md. Daud Adnan and Deputy Director of Hospital and Clinic Branch of Directorate, Dr. Moinul Ahsan, it is stated that Dr. Aksutta Saha, who is working in the hospital, will not be able to provide any specialist services at the Central Hospital without the written approval of the Directorate of Health.

It is also said that the Central Hospital authorities will bear all the medical expenses and medical complications from the family of the victim Mahbooba Rahman Ankhi.

Information of all the doctors who treated the affected patient and all the documents related to the treatment should be sent to the BMDC. After that, if any decision is taken from BMDC regarding the registration of those doctors, action will be taken accordingly.

Also, the central hospital authority will bear all the expenses of the accused Dr. Shahzadi Mostaki and Dr. Muna Saha in the ongoing court case. Besides, if any compensation is demanded by the victim patient's family, it has to be fulfilled according to the existing law. These instructions are effective immediately. The Health Department has also said that strict legal action will be taken in case of violation.
