Heavy rains and landslides stop traffic in Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 8 August 2023: The Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway has sunk in several places due to heavy rains and landslides. Due to this, the traffic on the highway has been stopped since Tuesday morning.

According to the locals, the water of the Sangu river is flowing over the danger mark due to the continuous rains and landslides in the last few days. The highways of Keranirhat, Chandnaish and Dohazari areas of Satkania of Chittagong have sunk. Three to four feet of water has been recorded in some areas of these roads. Because of this, the traffic in Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway has stopped.

Hasimpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Khorshed Bin Ishak of Chandanash said that the water of the Sangu river is flowing over the border due to the hilly slope. The union along with the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway is submerged in water.

Satkania Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasin Arafat said that the highway was submerged under several feet of water due to heavy rains. All kinds of traffic on the road has been stopped since morning. Practically the people of the entire area are waterlogged. Zillur Rahim, traffic inspector of Keranirhat area, said that there is waist-deep water on the road in this area.
