Heavy rains with gusty winds lash Dhaka; Nor'wester with depression-flood alert sounded

Dhaka, May 3: Many parts of Dhaka have received torrential rains with gusty winds at night. It started raining at 9.50 pm on Sunday (May 2) in the middle of Dhaka including Malibagh, Mouchak, Shantinagar, Magbazar, Rajarbagh, Khilgaon and Goran. After the heat of the day, the rain is a relief. With this the wind began to blow with intense speed.

Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, the country's weather will change drastically this month. This month, on the one hand, there are signs of flash floods, low pressure, cyclones and strong thunderstorms, on the other hand, there may be less than normal rainfall and severe thunderstorms. There may be intermittent thunderstorms in many areas this week. It has rained in Nikli, Netrokona, Srimangal and Chuadanga in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, mild to moderate heat waves are blowing over Dhaka, Tangail, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Maijdikot, Pabna, Feni, Patuakhali and Khepupara areas. However, it may come down.

A meeting at the Meteorological Department said last month's review showed a significant change in April, with 79 per cent less rainfall than normal across the country. The country is also likely to receive slightly less rainfall than normal this May.

Normal rainfall refers to a different amount as a month for each division. For example, for the month of May, 196 mm in Rajshahi, 261 mm in Rangpur, 292 mm in Dhaka. 260 mm in Barisal, 310 mm in Chittagong, 175 mm in Khulna, 510 mm in Sylhet and 380 mm in Mymensingh. Rainfall is defined as normal rainfall.

The long-term weather forecast says one to two depressions are likely to occur in the Bay of Bengal this month. One of these could turn into a cyclone. In the northern and central parts of the country, moderate to severe thunderstorms with hail and hail for two to three days are expected. In other parts of the country, there may be 5 to 7 days of hail with thunderstorms and light to moderate thunderstorms.

And in May, a hurricane could hit the western part of the country. Temperatures can be as high as 40 degrees Celsius and mild to moderate heat can spread across the country.
