Dhaka, April 13: Security has been beefed up at every police station in the Motijheel division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Outposts with light machine guns (LMGs) and Chinese rifles have been set up in each police station. Police personnel have always been kept ready at the check post made of sandbags. It is learned that police personnel will be deployed in these police stations 24 hours a day. Similar security has been beefed up in Motijheel and Wari police stations.

Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Nurul Islam confirmed the matter on Monday (April 12) night. He said Motijheel police station, Sabujbagh police station, Khilgaon police station, Paltan Model police station, Rampura police station, Mugda police station and Shajahanpur police station of Motijheel division have set up outposts with sandbags and kept policemen on duty with LMG and Chinese rifles.

Syed Nurul Islam further said that heavy weapons have been deployed in the police stations in the last few days due to the current situation and additional security of the police stations. Security has been beefed up with police personnel at various points.

Wari Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shah Iftekhar Ahmed said instructions have also been given to increase security at police stations in the division. A security check post has been set up in front of the police station with sandbags. Police security measures including LMG and Chinese rifles have been strengthened at the check posts.

He said security has been beefed up at Wari Thana, Demra Thana, Shampur Thana, Jatrabari Thana, Gandaria Thana and Kadamtali Thana of Wari Division.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of Ramna Division RM Faizur Rahman said that every police station in DMP is always secured. Even then, security has been beefed up so that there is no shortage of security. However, LMGs are very heavy weapons, LMGs are not kept in the police stations of Ramna division.

Earlier on Thursday, DMP Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam directed to increase security in all police stations in Dhaka. He directed a 24-hour patrol around the police station.

It is to be mentioned that on March 28, the supporters of the strike carried out violence in different parts of the country during the morning-evening strike called by Hefazat-e-Islam. In particular, the Khantihata Highway police station was attacked and vandalized at the Sarail Bishbrod intersection in Brahmanbaria. Several weapons were burnt in the fire.
