Hefazat announces new committee led by Babunagari-Jihadi

Dhaka, June 7: Finally, the new central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has been announced. The new 33-member committee was announced at a press conference at Makhjanul Uloom Madrasa in Khilgaon at 11am on Monday. Leaders with jails and political identities have been dropped from the new committee. Junaid Babunagari has been retained as Amir and Nurul Islam Jihadi as secretary general in the committee.

Md. Yusuf, the eldest son of the late Amir Shah Ahmad Shafi, the founder of the organization, has been kept as the Assistant Secretary General.

There are 9 people in the announced committee in the post of Naib Amir. They are Maulana Ataullah Hafezji, Maulana Abdul Haq, Maulana Salahuddin Nanupuri, Principal Mianur Rahman Chowdhury, Maulana Muhibbul Haque, Maulana Yahya, Maulana Abdul Quddus, Maulana Tajul Islam and Maulana Mufti Jas.

The five in the post of Joint Secretary General are Maulana Sajedur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Awal, Maulana Lakman Hakim, Maulana Anaarul Karim and Maulana Ayub Babungari. Maulana Zahurul Islam and Yusuf Madani are the Assistant Secretaries General.

Maulana Mir Idris has become the organizing secretary; Finance Secretary Maulana Mufti Muhammad Ali; Assistant Financial Secretary Mufti Habibur Rahman Kasemi; Publicity Secretary Maulana Muhiuddin Rabbani; Co-publicity secretary Maulana Jamal Uddin; Medicine Secretary Maulana Abdul Qayyum Sebhani; Assistant Medical Secretary Maulana Omar Farooq.

The other eight members of the committee are Maulana Maebarakullah, Maulana Faizullah, Maulana Forkanullah Khalil, Maulana Mashtaq Ahmed, Maulana Rashid Ahmed, Maulana Anas, Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, Maulana Mahmudul Alam.

It was informed at the press conference that the full committee of Hefazat has 151 members. The new 33-member committee will be able to form a full committee with others.

In addition, in future, the president of each district committee will be ex-officio member of the central committee and the president and secretary of the district committee will be a non-political person.

Besides, an 16-member advisory committee headed by Muhibullah Babungari was announced at the press conference. Hefazat-e-Islam said Junaid Babungari and Muhibullah Babungari could not attend the meeting due to illness.

The late Amir of Hifazat and Director General of Hathazari Madrasa Shah Ahmad Shafi died on September 18, 2020. After that, in the midst of various discussions, a 151-member committee of Hefazat was formed with Amir as Babungari through a conference on 15 November. Ahmed Shafi's followers did not get a place in the 151-member committee.
