Dhaka: The government is ging to take a strict stand against perpetrators, in the wake of violent clashes in the name of opposing the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the golden jubilee of independence and the centenary of the birth of the father of the state Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Law enforcement agencies are going to take strict action by identifying the culprits. Although the government initially showed patience to avoid clashes and casualties, it will not give any concessions to the attackers.

Regarding the Hifazat violence, Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member Dr Abdur Razzak said the government would not make any concessions on violence. Hundreds of people had to be shot to deal with what they did. But instead of doing that, the government has shown patience. The whole nation has seen what fanatics can do. This time the government will take strict action. He said all those involved in the destructive act would be brought to justice. They will never be spared.

According to media reports, the central leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam are being accused in cases of sabotage in different places including Hathazari, Narayanganj and Dhaka in Chittagong. As the names of the top leaders came up, there was a panic among the leaders and activists of Hefazat. Many of the leaders accused of Tandobe are said to be in detention at any time.

Sources said that some top leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam, including Maulana Mamunul Haque, who made headlines in the extramarital affair news, are also under surveillance. Besides, the central bank has summoned the bank accounts of more than fifty leaders. The reason for this is that since the Hefazat leaders are now directly involved in politics, they, like the leaders of other political parties, will be scrutinized.

So far, a number of cases have been filed in connection with vandalism, arson and assaults in the wake of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, in which about 30,000 people have been named as accused. Among them are many leaders of Hefazat, BNP and Jamaat including Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque. Several accused, including Mamunul, may be arrested if the government gives the green signal.

A few Hefazat leaders have covered up the case and the investigation. They are currently in fear of arrest. According to the same source, in addition to Maulana Mamunul Haque in the recent mass violence case, Hefazat's Joint Secretary General Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Joint Secretary General Maulana Lokman Habib, Joint Secretary General Nasir Uddin Monir, Nayeb Amir Maulana Bahauddin Zakaria, Maulana Nurbem Intensive investigation is underway on Maulana Habibur Rahman, Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayyubi and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Jasim Uddin. Many more leaders are being monitored. Besides, the activities of some leaders of BNP and Jamaat are also being monitored. However, the leaders of Hifazat say that these cases are being filed to harass the top leaders.

According to several police and RAB officials, Hefazat-e-Islam activists started the first violence from Shalla in Sunamganj. Later, they carried out one sabotage after another in different places. Behind them were Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal. They have squandered hundreds of crores of rupees by using religion to carry out extreme violence.

According to intelligence sources, surveillance on some leaders has been stepped up since March 28. When tension spread over the blockade of Mamunul Haque in Sonargaon last Saturday, special surveillance was started on these leaders of Hefazat. Sources of sabotage instigators are also being sought. In the meantime, some evidence has been found about some leaders including Mamunul Haque. Several accused, including Mamunul, may be arrested if the government gives the green signal.

Sensing the case and investigation, some Hefazat leaders have covered their bodies. In addition to Maulana Mamunul Haque, Hefazat's Joint Secretary General Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Joint Secretary General Maulana Lokman Habib, Joint Secretary General Nasir Uddin Monir, Nayeb Amir Maulana Bahauddin Zakaria, Maulana Nurul Ahmad Jehab. Maulana Khaled Saifullah Ayyubi and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Jasim Uddin are said to be under investigation. Many more are under surveillance.

According to the police, the perpetrators are being identified through intelligence information. For this, video footage and still images are being taken. Attempts are being made to identify and arrest several of them. Allegations of involvement in the attack against Hefazat leaders and activists are coming up in the preliminary investigation. Strict action will also be taken against them.
