Hefazat Arrests Hefazat: Babungari's press secretary Farooqi arrested
Dhaka, May 22: RAB has arrested Hefazat-e-Islam convener Junaid Babungari's press secretary Enamul Hasan Farooqi. He was arrested on Friday (May 21st) night from Fatehabad in Hathazari, Chittagong. At noon on Saturday (May 22), RAB-7 Chittagong Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mashiur Rahman announced the arrest.
Lieutenant Colonel Mashiur Rahman said Enamul Hasan Farooqi has been arrested in connection with the violence in Hathazari. He is being questioned. He will be handed over to Hathazari police station later.
Farooqi used to send all kinds of statements and press releases of Hefazat on behalf of Babunagari to the media. He was the publicity secretary of Hathazari Upazila Hefazat.
He is accused in the case filed against former Amir of Hefazat, Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, for murder. There is also another case against him for vandalizing the Hathazari police station building and land office and setting it on fire.
Clashes erupted in Chittagong's Hathazari and Brahmanbaria following clashes between worshipers at Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka over the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Four people were killed in a shootout with police in Hathazari. The agitated madrasa students vandalized and set fire to Hathazari police station, land office and Dakbangla.
Hathazari police have registered 10 cases against 4,500 people, citing the names of 148 people, including Babunagari. So far, police have arrested 74 people in these cases.
