Hefazat chief Junaid Babunagari dies

Dhaka, August 19: The head (Amir) of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and Shaikhul Hadith Allama Junaid Babungari of Hathazari Madrasa has died (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).

HM Junaid, a servant of Junaid Babunagari, and his grandson Barkatullah Babunagari said he died at the CSCR Hospital in Chittagong around 12:30 pm on Thursday (August 19).

The body of Junaid Babunagari has been kept at Hathazari Madrasa. His janaza will be held there at 11:00 pm. He will be buried at Hathazari Madrasa later, confirmed Maulana Mir Idris, organizing secretary of the central committee of Hefazat.

Earlier in the day, he was taken to the hospital around 11:00 am. Later, an ambulance carrying his body was taken to Hathazari Madrasa around 1:30 pm.

According to a source at Hathazari Madrasa, the physical condition of Babunagari had been deteriorating since yesterday (Wednesday) evening. Today, around 11:00 am, his physical condition suddenly deteriorated further. He was then rushed to the hospital.

Junaid Babunagari was suffering from geriatric diseases, including diabetes. He had been hospitalized several times before. The late Hefazat Amir took the first dose of coronavirus vaccine in a car in Chittagong's Hathazari upazila on August 8 at noon.
