Dhaka, May 31: The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) has received information about a transaction of around Tk 6 crore a year in the bank account of Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of the recently dissolved central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam. Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) Joint Commissioner Md Mahbub Alam said this at the DB office on Sunday (May 30) at 5.30 pm.

"We have recently arrested a number of Hefazat leaders. The arrests have led to progress in the investigation of many cases. We are closely monitoring the economic affairs of Hefazat and scrutinizing the documents," he said.

"Mamunul Haque's bank account has about six crore transactions per year. Also recently arrested was Kasemi, the finance secretary of the former Hefazat committee. I also got some accounts from him, they are also being investigated."

These financing is especially through expatriate Bangladeshis. Expatriates donate to the custody of the madrasa or madrasa-students for various purposes. They also donate for the Rohingyas. Some of the money for custody also comes from abroad.

Hefazat-e-Islam leaders did not maintain the money properly after it came from abroad. They used to spend after taking the money as they wished. They have used this money for political activities. Hefazat in particular has used it in its own activities. Hefazat also used the money of Rohingyas for their own work. They also embezzled huge sums of money. Hefazat leaders have built their own houses with the money.

The investigation has shown that the Madrasa organizations Befaq or Hayatul Ulaya are very important organizations but these organizations are also becoming hostages to the custody. As a result, these organizations cannot manage their proper activities. Such money is going into the hands of those who are in control of money or those who are controlling politics. Again in some cases they are the owners of this money. Again, there are many good scholars and ulama, they are becoming helpless to this syndicate. Because those who have money, they want to control power in exchange for money. He also said that there may be separate cases on these issues.
