Hefazat leader Sharifullah placed on remand

Dhaka, April 14: A court has granted a one-day remand to Mufti Sharifullah, co-publicity secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam's central committee, in a 2013 murder case in the capital's Jatrabari police station area. Police produced him in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (April 14th). Jatrabari Police Station Inspector Ayan Mahmud requested to remand him for seven days for proper investigation into the Special Powers Act case. At the end of the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saeed granted him a one-day remand.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, the DMP's Detective Branch (DB) Wari Division arrested him from Mir Hazirbagh area of ​​Jatrabari. Mufti Sharifullah is the accused in the case of Special Powers Act of Jatrabari Police Station. The case was filed against him at Jatrabari police station on May 6, 2013.

Earlier, on April 12, 2013, DB and RAB arrested Azizul Haque Islamabadi, the central organizing secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, in a joint operation in the Motijheel arson case. On the same morning, RAB-11 arrested four leaders of the organization, including the main accused in the case of attack, vandalism and sabotage by the police in the Mamunul Haque case at the Sonargaon Royal Resort in Narayanganj. These four accused in each of the cases that have been registered in that incident.

The arrested are Iqbal Hossain, 50, president of Sonargaon Upazila Khilafat Majlis, Amir Mohiuddin Khan, 50, sonar of Sonargaon Upazila Hifazat-e-Islam and Shahfazat Shahlib, secretary of Sonargaon Upazila Hifazat-e-Islam. And Sonargaon Upazila Hefazat-e-Islam vice-president Moazzem (49).
