Hefazat leaders meet at Home Minister's residence

Dhaka, April 20: Hefazat leaders met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his Dhanmondi residence. At least 10 Hefazat leaders went there for a meeting around 10pm on Monday.

They were led by Maulana Nurul Islam Jihadi, Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam. He was accompanied by Amir Ataullah Hafezji of Khilafah Movement, his nephew Maulana Habibullah Niazi, Maulana Mamunul Haque's elder brother Befaq Secretary General Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Principal Mizanur Rahman and several other leaders.

After an hour-long meeting, the Hifazat leaders left the minister's residence at around 11:15 pm. As he was leaving, Hefazat Secretary General Nurul Islam Jihadi simply said, "We came to meet him. There is nothing to say.

The meeting was attended by top leaders of Hefazat as well as senior officials of the Police and Intelligence Police (DB).

Meanwhile, Home Ministry Information and Public Relations Officer Sharif Mahmud Apu said, "If you or my relative is arrested, we can go to the Home Minister." That is why it cannot be called a meeting. '

According to sources, the minister had private talks with the custody leaders. Hefazat leaders at the time admitted that they had overreacted to Narendra Modi's visit.

Talking to Hefazat leaders, the minister said he (the minister) would soon visit Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong. Talk to students. Explain to them that vandalism and arson are not good.

Asked if the meeting was fruitful, Mamunul Haque's brother Maulana Mahfuzul Haque said, "Discussions have taken place, but there is nothing more to say."

A few journalists present then asked them to say something, but they hurriedly got into the car and left. When Maulana Ataullah Hafezi was questioned at that time, he refused to give an answer.
