Dhaka, April 2: Extensive security measures have been taken in Baitul Mukarram area of the capital to prevent any untoward incident or chaos during the protest program of Hefazat. Law enforcement tightened security in the area before Friday (April 2nd) Friday prayers.

On the other hand, RAB members took position at Baitul Mukarram North Gate and West Side. Police were also deployed inside the north gate of Baitul Mukarram. Besides, caravans with armored vehicles were kept ready in Purana Paltan. However, no untoward incident took place as the Hefazat forces withdrew from the pre-announced protest program.

Police, Awami League, Juba League and Chhatra League clashed with Hefazat leaders and activists at Baitul Mukarram last Friday in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Bangladesh. The Baitul Mukarram area became heated.

On the same day, after the Friday prayers, they started chasing each other at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram. The Baitul Mukarram area turned into a battlefield in the anti-Modi procession.

Meanwhile, as announced earlier, Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists gathered in front of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram after Friday (April 2) Friday prayers.

However, after the rally, despite the announcement of the protest procession, the organization withdrew from the program.

Central and metropolitan leaders and activists of Hefazat took part in the rally. It was presided over by Junaid Al Habib, the central joint secretary general of the organization.

He told the rally, "No man can stay at home in Brahmanbaria for fear of arrest. But the real culprits are not being arrested. On the contrary, family members of those killed in the incident are being arrested and harassed."

Junaid al-Habib said, ‘Those who attacked madrassas, killed cocktails with terrorist forces, shot and killed people, nothing is happening to them. We want them arrested."

He said, "There are plans to close the madrasa now because of Corona's panic. Tarabi and prayers are being stopped like last Ramadan. If this is done at this stage, there will be a strong movement. There is no point in scaring the pious with the coronavirus."

Hefazat central joint secretary general Muhammad Mamunul Haque said, "The government is making a drama to tarnish the image of Hefazat. They are trying to make the students terrorists by recovering knives from the madrasa. They were sacrificial knives. Otherwise, they would not have been able to eat the halal meat of the country's animals."
