High Court bans battery-powered easy bike

Own representative, Dhaka, December 16: The High Court has directed to identify and remove illegal battery-powered easy bikes which are harmful to health. Besides, the court has banned the import and sale of these easy bikes.

A two-judge bench of the High Court comprising Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order on Wednesday (December 15) after hearing the writ petition. Lawyer Atiq Touhidul Islam appeared for the plaintiff. Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta represented the state.

Earlier, Kazi Jasimul Islam, president of Bagh Eco Motors, had filed a writ petition on December 13, citing media reports. In the writ petition, seven persons including industry secretary, road transport secretary and environment secretary were made defendants.

The court passed the order after hearing the writ petition. At the same time, the court directed the Ministry of Industries and the NBR to dispose of the petition.

Touhidul Islam said that these easybikes illegally charge with electricity. From which the government does not get any money. In addition, they are harmful to the environment and the human body.
