High court rulings protect democratic rights: PM Hasina

Dhaka, March 31: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, "The High Court has protected the democratic rights of the people of this country with its verdict."

On Thursday (March 31), the Prime Minister inaugurated the modern and aesthetic 12-storey 'Vijay-71 Bhaban' at the Supreme Court's Annexe building. She said this in her speech as the chief guest after joining the event virtually from Ganobhaban.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Those of us who lost loved ones, we had no right to seek justice. I even tried to come back to Bangladesh and file a case. But was not allowed to sue. Because the killers have been given indemnity."

She said a culture of impunity was introduced in the country. "The only time I was able to change that was when I was elected to the government by the people. There are so many obstacles we have to deal with, but I thank the judges for their courageous action."

Chief Justice Hasan Fayez Siddiqui was the special guest on the occasion. Law Minister Anisul Huq presided over the function. Greetings were given by Attorney General AM Amin Uddin. Besides, Law Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar gave a welcome speech. Judges and lawyers of the Supreme Court and High Court divisions were present at the time.

It is learned that 158 crore four lakh 22 thousand taka has been allocated for the construction of annex extension (extended) building of the Supreme Court. The government is carrying the whole of which. The building was constructed on an area of ​​18,134 square meters on the west side of the Annex building.

It has modern facilities, 56 chambers for judges, 32 court rooms, two separate elevators, modern generators and a two-storey electricity sub-station. In addition to the 32 division benches and chambers of judges, the building has 20 office rooms and official rooms for the administration of the Supreme Court.
