Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 12: Under the influence of depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, the entire Sundarbans area, including the lower part of Mongla, has been inundated with an extra two and a half feet high tide than normal. Houses in different areas on the banks of Pasur River have been submerged by the unusual tide.

As the houses of the residents of Mongla port and Pasur river banks of Sundarbans were submerged, the affected people have taken shelter in the houses and roads of others in the vicinity.

Residents of Pasur river in Chila, Chandpai and Burirdanga Union of the upazila are the most affected by floods. Many people are living in one house with their cattle due to inundation.

On Thursday afternoon, it was found that the houses there were submerged in water in Kananagar village of Chandpai union of the upazila.

Nargis Begum, a resident of Kananagar, said, "We live on the banks of Pasur river. But due to bad weather, the water level of the river has risen and has sunk all around. So I am living in one house with cows, goats and poultry."

Manonitya Aditya of the same area said, "My house has been submerged in the flood. I have been living on the street and on the balcony of other people's houses with my children for two days. Besides, there is no place to go and stay."

Meanwhile, the entire Sundarbans area has been inundated with two and a half feet high tide.

Azad Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Karamjal Tourism and Wildlife Breeding Center in Chandpai Range of East Sundarbans Division, said that a lot of water is rising due to the ongoing hostile weather. All areas of the Sundarbans have been submerged by the two-and-a-half feet high tide. Even though the Sundarbans have been flooded by the flood, no wildlife has been harmed so far. However, there are still chances of damage.
