Dhaka, June 23: In a letter sent to the US President, the leaders of the Hindu community of the country have protested the claim of six US Congressmen that minorities are being persecuted in Bangladesh as completely baseless and fabricated.

Protesting the letter dated May 25 by the six representatives of the US Congress, the Hindu community leaders wrote in a letter to Joe Biden, 'This is not only an absurd and baseless claim, but also portrays a huge misconception and we sent to the President of the United States those biased Congressmen. Rejecting the false and fabricated statements in the letter.'

According to a news release in Dhaka on Thursday, representatives of the globally recognized Hindu community International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISCON) and Sri Sri Abhayamitra Mahasmashan Identity Committee, Chittagong have written separate letters to the US President on June 20 in this regard.

The leaders of the Hindu community wrote in the letter that all the claims of persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh are baseless lies and fabrications.

In a letter to Joe Biden, they said, "We are writing to inform you that the claim made by six biased US Congressmen is completely false. This is to inform you that the claims made in the letter are baseless and fabricated. The claim of the US Congressmen should be considered as a denial of truth and it is done to destroy the existing communal harmony in Bangladesh."

In the letter, the leaders wrote, since 2008, since Bangladesh Awami League under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina returned to power, the minority community has been living in harmony. Even when a few isolated communal incidents occurred during the tenure of this government, the government immediately took strict measures to deal with them and took strong responses as well as appropriate preventive measures.

The leader wrote to Biden, "We strongly protest the biased assessment of those US congressmen about minority community groups and the claim that the Hindu population has halved since Sheikh Hasina came to power - there is no truth to it."

In their letter, the Hindu leaders highlighted the significant benefits the Hindu community has received from the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government. Besides, the letter also highlighted Awami League's slogan 'Dharmo Jaar Jaar, Utsav Sobar' - which shows the Prime Minister's secular values.
