Dhaka, November 30: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin said that it has been decided to stop hydraulic horns of vehicles in Dhaka within the next two months to stop noise pollution.

The Minister announced this decision at a press conference organized on Tuesday (November 29) at the Secretariat on the expectations and achievements of Bangladesh at the 27th World Climate Conference (COP-27).

Asked what the government is doing to prevent environmental pollution, the minister said, "We are holding meetings in every department. We held a meeting with those concerned with noise pollution in Dhaka, such as the drivers' association. We are also discussing about the students, we are also doing mobile courts."

He said, "In today's meeting we have also decided that hydraulic horns should be stopped first in Dhaka city within the next two months. Hydraulic horn which is banned is not right to drive in our country. Today we have decided that the hydraulic horn will be completely stopped by next December-January."

Regarding the ban on polythene, the minister said, "Polythene is banned. We are taking action against those who are producing, using. To come out of this I have planned to make golden bags from jute. Hopefully I can stop polythene bags completely."

When asked if he is satisfied with the steps taken to prevent environmental pollution, he said, "If we could not implement some of the plans, then there would not have been a single dune in the way the dune cutting started in Bangladesh. As the activities started from the Ministry of Environment, people have understood to some extent that cutting the dunes is not right, it is harmful for the country. Because of that maybe the dune is going to be protected."
