Own representative, Dhaka, January 3: Mentioning that if you love your country and the people, and if you are independent, there will be many obstacles, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "I know many bullets, bombs and grenades wait for me, but I never care about that as I am working to change the future of our people."

The Prime Minister was speaking at a formal (virtual) event on Sunday (January 2) morning to mark the UN General Assembly's recognition of Bangladesh's transition from a least developed country to a developing country. She took part in a video conference from Ganabhaban at the programme organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.

The three-time Prime Minister said, "I know there are many obstacles to independence. Those who love the country, think only of the people of the country and walk the path, their journey is never easy. There are many obstacles to overcome."

Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed along with his family on August 15, 1975. Bangabandhu's two daughters, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, fortunately survived as they were out of the country at that time. After the assassination of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina returned to the country in 1981 after living in exile for a long time. Later, miscreants tried to assassinate Sheikh Hasina multiple times. The most dangerous attack was carried out in 2004. Hasina survived the attack, though 24 leader-activists of Awami League were killed.

Expressing her determination to move the country forward by overcoming all obstacles, Sheikh Hasina said, "We will not stop, no matter how dark, rough and thorny the path may be. I will move forward to change the destiny of the people of Bangladesh by trampling on all the bloodshed. This is my promise."

The Prime Minister quoted a few lines from a famous poem by the American poet Robert Frost.

Expressing gratitude to the colleagues, the Prime Minister said, "I am working to change the destiny of the people. And those who are with me, I am grateful and thankful to them. They are working to take Bangladesh forward."

She said, "My party Bangladesh Awami League, our allies, the people of Bangladesh and those who are with me, I thank them all. I also thank our development partners."
