If Awami League comes to power, development of the country will continue: PM

Dhaka, January 12: Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said that her party will continue the development of the country and serve the people if it comes to power.

She said, "If we can come to power in the next general election held at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, then we will continue the process of socio-economic progress of the country and serve the people."

Sheikh Hasina said these when Assistant Minister Chen Zhou of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at his official residence Ganbhaban on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that Bangladesh has turned around in the last 14 years because his government is working tirelessly to ensure the overall development of Bangladesh and the people of the country are currently reaping the benefits. She welcomed China's cooperation in Bangladesh's progress and expressed hope that the country's assistance will increase to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041.

In this context, Sheikh Hasina mentioned China's assistance in various mega projects like the Padma Bridge and Karnaphuli Tunnel, the first in South Asia. She called for large-scale Chinese investment in Bangladesh, especially the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City at Mirersarai in Chittagong.

The Prime Minister reiterated his call to world leaders to stop the Russia-Ukraine war, which will cause human suffering around the world. She said, we don't want war, we want peace.

The Chinese Vice Minister said that his country will provide all kinds of assistance to Bangladesh as expected to build a developed and prosperous country by 2041.

He also said that his country supports this foreign policy of Bangladesh as 'friend with all, enmity with none'.

He said that all the promises made by the president of his country during his visit to Bangladesh will be implemented in stages.

The Chinese minister congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on being re-elected president of Bangladesh Awami League on behalf of CPC and their president Xi Jinping. He expressed interest in developing bilateral relations between the two parties by strengthening the relationship between CPC and Bangladesh Awami League.
