Dhaka, June 7: Mentioning that the people of the village are well, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "I have seen garment workers protesting for a few days now. If the movement stops the factory and work, then the job will go away."

The Prime Minister addressed a discussion meeting organized by the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Tuesday (June 7) on the occasion of the historic 6-point day. In that speech she spoke about the movement of garment workers. Sheikh Hasina joined the discussion through video conference from Ganobhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the issue of export of readymade garments and other products, the Prime Minister said, "I saw garment workers protesting a few days ago. Movement is fine. But the countries that will buy our ready-made garments (they will not like it). We are getting better benefits, production is increasing. The wages of the workers have never stopped. We have given incentive package, we have given money. We have made arrangements so that the garment factory workers get their salaries directly through subsidy. Made payment directly from phone possible."

She said that people protest demanding a raise in the salary and various other things. "If the export is stopped, then the garment factory will be closed. Then you'll lose all. Not only the salary, the job will also vanish. Then you have to go back home. What will you do then? The leaders are provoking. We have to think about who they are provoking," she said.

The Prime Minister said, "I said the real thing very openly. Purchasing power is also becoming limited. It is getting worse day by day. We export to different places, including America and Europe. The price of things has gone up everywhere. There are people in misery, people spending their days without food. Compared to that, Bangladesh is able to provide everything, including food, vaccines, medicines for everyone."

She said, "If someone creates a turbulent environment, I will say that in the end, both the shores will be lost. Everyone has to remember this too. After the coming of Awami League government, stability has come in the country."

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader gave a welcome speech in the discussion meeting, which was conducted by Abdus Sobhan Golap, Publicity and Publication Secretary.
