IGP Benazir Ahmed gets US visa

Dhaka, August 25: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed is going to the United States to attend the United Nations Police Summit. However, he has been granted a visa on the condition that he does not go to any other event outside the United Nations program. On Thursday (August 25), sources from the police headquarters and the home ministry confirmed that he had received the visa.

The IGP is scheduled to attend the two-day United Nations Police Summit from August 31 to September 1.

Meanwhile, an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 4 said that the third conference with police chiefs will be held at the UN headquarters from August 31 to September 1. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will lead Bangladesh in this.

Other members of the delegation are IGP Benazir Ahmed, Home Ministry Public Security Department Joint Secretary Abu Hena Mostafa Zaman, Home Minister Private Secretary Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Nasian Wazed and Assistant Inspector General of Police Mohammad Masood Alam.

They will leave Dhaka for New York on or around August 30. The order also informed that he will leave New York for Dhaka on or around September 3. During the visit and transit, they will be considered as working, the order said.

According to related sources, the entire money of this visit will be spent from the public security department of the Ministry of Interior or the budget of the police. IGP Benazir Ahmed has been nominated by the government as home minister, ministry officials.

On December 9 last year, the United States Treasury Department (Revenue Department) imposed sanctions on seven former and current officers of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The banned list includes former RAB Director General (DG) Benazir Ahmed, current Director General (DG) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Additional Director General (Operations) Khan Mohammad Azad, former Additional Director General (Operations) Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, former Additional Director General (Operations) Md. Jahangir Alam and former Additional Director General (Operations) Md Anwar Latif Khan and former RAB-7 Commander Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed.
