IGP instructs to ensure maximum security during Durga Puja

Dhaka, October 7: Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed has directed the field level police officers to ensure maximum security during the Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the followers of Hinduism. The IGP gave the instructions while addressing a meeting on law and order and security at Durga Puja at the Hall of Pride at the police headquarters on Wednesday (October 6). All the Metropolitan Commissioners of Police, Range DIGs and District Police Super Virtual were present at the meeting.

The IGP said, "The security of the puja should be ensured through communication and coordination with the leaders of the puja celebration committee locally."

He called upon the leaders of the puja celebration committee to show due respect to the religious sentiments of the followers of other religions during the puja. He also instructed the police officials to be vigilant so that no person or group could spread any kind of rumor on social media centering on Durga Puja.

The IGP said that under the wise leadership of the Prime Minister, economic prosperity of all is being achieved equally in the country. Communal harmony has increased among people of different religions. As a result, the number of puja mandals is increasing every year.

The leaders of the puja celebration council participating in the meeting expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements taken by the police and thanked the IGP.

The monitoring cell will work at the police headquarters and other units to monitor the law and order situation in Puja.

The meeting was attended by Additional IG of Police Headquarters, Heads of various units of Police in Dhaka, representatives of various intelligence agencies, Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council and Leader of Dhaka Metropolitan Public Worship Committee, representatives of Ramkrishna Mission, NSI, DGFI and other agencies.

Durga Puja is starting from October 11 in 31,137 puja mandals in the country. The puja will end on October 15 with the immersion.
