IGP orders to be careful to prevent rumors during Durga Puja

Dhaka, Sept 27: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has instructed the police officers to be vigilant so that no one can spread any rumors about the upcoming Durga Puja. He also directed to strengthen the police patrol on the occasion of Puja.

The IGP gave this order in the president's speech in the meeting regarding the control of the security and law and order situation of the puja mandaps on the occasion of Autumn Durga Puja at the Hall of Pride of Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting was attended by Additional IGPs, Heads of various units of Dhaka Police, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, representatives of various intelligence agencies, Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad and Dhaka Metropolitan Public Puja Committee. Besides, the Superintendents of Police of the district were involved in the meeting virtually.

The IGP said that the policemen should be vigilant so that no person or group can cause untoward incidents and deteriorate law and order. He instructed the field level police officers to ensure security before the puja, during the puja and after the puja by communicating and coordinating with the leaders of the local puja celebration committee.

He said, "There is excellent communal harmony among people of different religions in our country."

The IGP expressed hope that the upcoming Durga Puja will be celebrated safely and smoothly as in the past Durga Puja has been celebrated in a festive and joyous atmosphere.

The media and public relations department of the police headquarters informed that the Hindu religious leaders present at the meeting expressed their satisfaction with the measures taken by the Bangladesh Police around the upcoming Durga Puja. Monitoring cells will be set up at police headquarters and other police units on the occasion of Durga Puja. It should be noted that Durga Puja will be celebrated from October 20 to 24 this year.
