Dhaka, August 28: Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said that strict action will be taken against anyone who wants to worsen the law and order situation. Policemen are informed about what we can legally do and what our limitations are.

He said these during an exchange of views with reporters after the welfare meeting of range police officers at Barisal District Police Lines in-service training center on Sunday afternoon.

The IGP said that during the election, the police perform their duties under the Election Commission. So we will fulfill the responsibility assigned by the Election Commission with all our abilities. There are police schools in different departments of the country. I am trying to establish Police Training Academy in Barisal too. After independence there were 50 thousand policemen. Which has now increased to 2 lakh 12 thousand. Meanwhile, policemen are constantly retiring. That number of members has to be recruited afresh. For this, it would be beneficial to establish a police training academy in Barisal.

He also said that an OC was injured while performing duty in Habiganj a few days ago. I myself am keeping in touch all the time about his treatment. He will be given maximum medical care. Not only him, if our members are attacked and injured while maintaining law and order, he will be given the highest possible treatment. At the same time, we will take strict legal action against those who attack.

When asked if any special campaign will be conducted before the election, he said, "When, where and how we will conduct the special operation, I think it is better not to reveal it due to strategic reasons. We will take whatever measures are necessary to maintain the law and order situation."

The Prime Minister has a zero tolerance policy against militancy and terrorism. You have noticed that we are strictly controlling militancy-terrorism with zero tolerance policy. At this time, he called for the help of people from all walks of life in Bangladesh.
