Inauguration of Bangabandhu Corner and Bangabandhu Garden in Assam

Dhaka, 4 December 2022: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen today inaugurated the 'Bangabandhu Corner' and 'Bangabandhu Garden' at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Silchar in the northwestern Indian state of Assam.

Dr. Bharatrat of NIT Bangabandhu Corner and Bangabandhu Garden at the APJ Abdul Kalam Learning and Resource Center were established in the Institute's library premises.

After inaugurating the Bangabandhu Corner and Garden with NIT Director Professor Rajat Gupta, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh attended a discussion and cultural program at the institution as the chief guest.

Momen expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for setting up Bangabandhu Corner and Bangabandhu Garden at a reputed institution like NIT which has South Asia's largest digital archive. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh expressed the hope that the students of India and other South Asian countries will learn more about Bangabandhu's life-long struggle for the liberation of oppressed people as well as his principles and dreams through Bangabandhu Corner.

He also said that the students will get to know about Bangladesh's freedom struggle and how India supported Bangladesh during the liberation war in 1971. He said that Bangladesh and India share a deep bond of similar culture, tradition and language.

The minister said, if there is strong communication between the people, there can be no barrier between us (Bangladesh and India). While planting a sapling in the Bangabandhu Garden, Foreign Minister presented some of his books written and edited on Bangabandhu, Bangladesh and development under Sheikh Hasina's government to the Bangabandhu Corner.

The Foreign Minister has been invited as the chief guest at the '1st Silchar-Sylhet Festival-2022' held on December 2-3 at Silchar, Assam.

Momen expressed deep satisfaction and thanked the Indian authorities for the warm welcome accorded him and his delegation when they crossed the Sheola land port on the Sylhet border and reached the Sutarkandi border on the Indian side on Friday. Momen is leading the Bangladesh delegation consisting of Iqbalur Rahim MP, Gazi Mohammad Shahnewaz MP, Mahibur Rahman Manik MP, former foreign secretary Shamser Mubin Chowdhury, business leaders, political dignitaries and media representatives from Sylhet.
