Dhaka, Feb 19: The Indian government has allowed the export of onions in limited quantities to some selected countries including Bangladesh. The country's English daily Economic Times published such news on Monday (February 19).

An Indian official has been quoted in the news as saying that a limited quantity of onions has been allowed to be exported for bilateral purposes.

However, the official could not provide any detailed information about the amount of onion that the country's government has allowed to export.

Apart from Bangladesh, other countries to which India has allowed onion export are Nepal, Bhutan, Bahrain and Mauritius.

Earlier, the government of Bangladesh wrote an official letter to the government of India to export a certain amount of onion and sugar in the holy month of Ramadan to control the prices in the country's market.

India is the second largest onion exporter in the world market. In December last year, the country's government imposed a ban on onion exports to stabilize the local market.
