Dhaka, September 14: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the Indian government had promised that there would be no more killings at the border. He hoped that the Government of India would keep this promise.

In a briefing at his residence on Monday (September 13th), Obaidul Quader added that BNP leaders had forgotten that the long-standing border issue between Bangladesh and India had been resolved through Sheikh Hasina. Although the BNP spoke about opposing India, the party took a kneeling position with the neighbouring country, which the countrymen have witnessed in their time.

He said Sheikh Hasina's courage and diplomatic skills enabled the exchange of many year-old enclaves and border issues, and were done in a cordial atmosphere. The BNP has not been able to solve any problem during their rule but had built a wall of mistrust with the neighboring country.

The Awami League general secretary said Sheikh Hasina's government has broken down the walls of mistrust and built a bridge of relations by upholding the interests of the country and the people.

"What could be more knee-jerk policy than those who tried to gain political advantage by keeping the border issue alive, those who forgot to visit India and talk about the water issue, those who waited with flowers and sweets at the closed doors of the Indian embassy after the change of government in India?" Quader asked while taking shots at the BNP.

"The BNP does not hesitate to sell the country's independence for power under the guise of liberation war and patriotism," he said.

Mentioning that there have been several meetings on the border killings, Obaidul Quader said, "The Indian government has promised that there will be no more killings on the border."

"Those who join hands with the enemies can never be the defenders of sovereignty. The independence and sovereignty of this country is safe in the hands of Awami League," Quader added.
