India's gift of 20 lakh vaccines to come on January 20

Dhaka, January 19: As a 'gift' from the Government of India, 2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine may arrive in Bangladesh tomorrow, January 20, according to the Ministry of Health.

The vaccine is an Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made at the Serum Institute of India, the health secretary said.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Health Minister Zahid Maleque announced that he had received the vaccine. However, he did not give details. He said, “Some more vaccines will come from India as gifts."

Bangladesh is officially buying 30 million doses of the Oxford-Astrageneca vaccine produced at the Serum Institute of India, with the first shipment expected to arrive in the country by January 25.

The health minister said the vaccine received as a gift before the vaccine bought by the government would come from India.

Secretary Abdul Mannan said, “The vaccine that is supposed to be given as a gift is coming on Wednesday. We are getting 20 lakh doses. Vaccines from the Seram Institute of India. This vaccine is in addition to the agreement we have. It is coming, we confirm it. But Wednesday may come. It may be a couple of days late. I have spoken to the High Commission of India. This is what the letter says. Maybe on the 21st. "

According to the Ministry of Health, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has informed the Bangladesh Ministry of External Affairs that the vaccine is being sent to Bangladesh. A letter also arrived from the Indian High Commission on Monday.
