Dhaka, January 25: Health Minister Zahid Maleque has hailed the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured at India's Serum Instutute as the best in the world.

Zahid Maleque said the government is currently implementing nine types of vaccines across the country. There are also some minor side effects. A team from the health sector has been prepared for any side effects of the vaccine. Telemedicine services have also been set up to monitor the post-vaccine situation.

"India's Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is considered to be the most tolerable and effective in the world. The vaccine has just been tested in India and the UK. The vaccine is best suited to our climate compared to other vaccines. However, any vaccine may have minor side effects," Maleque made the remarks at an unscheduled press conference at the Health Ministry's conference room on Sunday afternoon.

He said there was no reason not to get vaccinated against a life-threatening virus like coronavirus for fear of minor side effects. However, the government will not force anyone to apply the vaccine. Everyone can get the vaccine freely as per their wish.

Asked whether the vaccine would be given to politicians or high-ranking officials first, the health minister said, "The vaccine must be administered in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization. According to the guidelines of the World Health Organization, it is mentioned to give to the health workers first. That is why many politicians are willing to take the vaccine in the first phase but it is not being given. However, politicians, the elderly and other interested people will be vaccinated in phases as per the guidelines of the World Health Organization. ”

Asked about antibody testing in Corona, the health minister said, "From now on, government and non-government organizations in the country can test antibodies from government-approved institutions. According to the agreement, another 5 million vaccines will come to the country. The government has already made all preparations to keep and distribute these 6 million vaccines in the country. ”

Health Services Secretary Abdul Mannan and Health Education and Family Welfare Secretary Ali Noor were present at the briefing.
