India wants to assist Bangladesh in transforming Dhaka city to smart city

Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy has offered to help transform Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) into a smart city.

He made the proposal during a courtesy call on DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday (October 20th).

In response to the Indian High Commissioner's proposal for a smart city, Mayor Tapas requested a written proposal at the time. In reply, the Indian High Commissioner said that the proposal would be sent as soon as possible.

The High Commissioner of India congratulated Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, for leading the meeting in bringing about visible changes in basic service activities including mosquito control and waste management.

Asking for the cooperation of Indian High Commissioner for the participation of Indian athletes in organizing 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon, 2021', DSCC Mayor Taposh said, "We are going to organize Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 on the occasion of birth centenary and golden jubilee of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman." I look forward to your sincere cooperation for the visible participation of Indian athletes in that event. In response, Indian High Commissioner Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib assured all possible cooperation to make the Dhaka Marathon 2021 a success.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh further said that the proposal regarding waste management under Indian Line of Credit has already been sent to the ministry. Hopefully, this work will speed up soon.

The Indian High Commissioner suggested that the impact of the epidemic corona diminish at this time and the DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh visit India and witness several city corporation areas, including the Calcutta City Corporation, and exchange experiences.

The DSCC mayor responded positively to the Indian High Commissioner's proposal. The mayor also agreed to witness the management of the Indian City Corporation.

Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy described being able to serve in Bangladesh on the occasion of Mujib Year and the golden jubilee of independence as a 'good fortune'. He said his father took part in the great liberation war of Bangladesh as a member of the Indian Air Force during the great liberation war of 1971.
