Dhaka, February 16: Foreign Ministry Secretary Masood Bin Momen said that India will cooperate to bring electricity from Nepal-Bhutan. He said, "India will help us to bring electricity from Nepal-Bhutan."

In response to a question from reporters about Adani's electricity, the foreign secretary said, "There was no separate discussion about bringing Adani's electricity. But there was a discussion about the electricity transmission line. They said, we have to increase the capacity of the transmission line. We will discuss it with the ministry."

He gave this information in a briefing on the Bangladesh-India Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) meeting at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday (February 15). Bangladesh-India Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) meeting was held in Dhaka. Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen led the Bangladesh delegation in the meeting. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Khatra.

Masood Bin Momen said that India has been called upon to resolve the pending issues including the Teesta Agreement, "There has been a problem between the federal and state governments of India on the Teesta issue for a long time. We have called on India to implement the Teesta water distribution and Kushiara Agreement as soon as possible."

He said, "Discussions have been held to remove tariff barriers to increase trade between the two countries. Besides, discussions have been held to speed up the SEPA agreement. There have also been talks about increasing the role of BGB-BSF in preventing smuggling at the border. Then border killings will also decrease."

Masood bin Momen also said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's meeting with the Indian Foreign Secretary expressed satisfaction with the existing relationship. She conveyed the Indian Prime Minister's greetings to the Prime Minister."

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday (February 14). During his visit to Dhaka, he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra attended the FOC meeting in Dhaka. Earlier, the FOC meeting was held in New Delhi, India on January 29, 2021. This is Vinay Mohan Khatra's first visit to Bangladesh after taking charge as India's Foreign Secretary on May 1, 2022.
