Dhaka, February 4: During his visit to Khulna, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Kumar Verma, on Friday visited the Rupsa Rail Bridge built in India-Bangladesh Development Partnership.

Rupsa Rail Bridge has been constructed through Line of Concessional Credit (continuous loan on flexible terms) provided by the Government of India to the Government of Bangladesh. The $169.26 million bridge will enhance trade and communication in the entire sub-region.

India is Bangladesh's biggest development partner in South Asia. The country has already pledged nearly US$8 billion (LoC) to Bangladesh. Rupsa Rail Bridge is an example of that promise.

Rupsa Rail Bridge will facilitate the transportation of goods at Khulna-Mongla port. Farmers in the region will improve access to markets for agricultural products and local businesses. It is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the tourism industry in the southwestern region of the country.
