Dhaka, May 15: An Indian variant of the coronavirus has been identified in the bodies of two patients at the DNCC's Dedicated Corona Hospital in Dhaka. The hospital's director Brigadier General AKM Nasir confirmed the matter to media on Friday.

"We found coronavirus of Indian variant among two patients who returned from India. They have been sent to test hospital as per instructions. We are keeping a close watch on those coming from India," the director said.

He urged everyone to be aware of the deadly virus. He also advised everyone to follow the hygiene rules and said it would be terrible if the Indian variant spreads.

On May 8, the strain was found in a sample from Evercare Hospital. ASM Alamgir, chief scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control & Research (IEDCR), confirmed the matter at that time.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the first known type of coronavirus in India, B.1.167, has been identified in 44 countries around the world.
