Dhaka, 31 July 2022 : One million Rohingya displaced from Myanmar have taken refuge in Bangladesh.

Initiatives were taken to stop high-speed mobile internet in Rohingya camps to prevent their trafficking. But it could not be done at the request of the West, said the Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen.

He said this in his speech as a special guest at the National Consultative Meeting on Prevention of Human Trafficking organized jointly by the Bangladesh United Nations Migration Network and the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Saturday (July 30).

The foreign minister said the government is committed to preventing citizens from becoming victims of human trafficking. Our initiatives and policies formulated at various times indicate so. We have enacted various laws and policies to ensure safe immigration. He said, through information technology, human traffickers are able to do more damage. Governments and stakeholders can prevent them with the help of technology. But we have to remember that human trafficking is a transnational crime and other countries' technology may be more advanced than ours. Human traffickers can take advantage of that. That is why international organizations must ensure that developing countries get access to advanced technologies.

Abdul Momen said, the United States is called a country of immigrants and immigrants are not a burden there. Immigrants are the country's source of innovation and development. They create more employment opportunities without reducing local employment. If we work together from a place of humanity, we can overcome this crisis.
