Iqbal sent to 7 days remand

Dhaka, Oct 24, 2021: A court has granted seven-day remand to four people, including Iqbal Hossain, the main accused in the case of placing the Holy Quran Sharif in a puja mandap.

They were taken to the court of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Mithila Jahan Nipa around 12:30 pm on Saturday.

Kotwali Police Station SI Mofizul Islam then applied for their 10-day remand. Apart from Iqbal, the other three are Humayun Kabir and Faisal Ahmed and Ikram Hossain, assistants of Darogabari Mazar.

Meanwhile, law enforcement forces tightened security at the court premises. Earlier on Friday afternoon, arrested Iqbal Hossain confessed to keeping the Holy Quran in the puja mandapa. Iqbal also gave information about why and under whose direction he did this during the interrogation of the high level investigation team of the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police M Tanvir Ahmed said Iqbal was questioned.

He was interrogated by a high-ranking police team from Dhaka. Besides, he was also interrogated by officials of different levels including district police and intelligence branch.

Iqbal Hossain was arrested on Thursday night from a beach in the tourist city of Cox's Bazar. Later, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Suhan Sarkar of Comilla Sadar Circle went to Cox's Bazar and brought him to Comilla by road.
