Iran will help Bangladesh in safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 26: Iran's ambassador Mansour Chavoshi said Iran will support Bangladesh in the safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas who were forcibly displaced from Myanmar.

The Iranian ambassador said this during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim informed the journalists about this information. The ambassador praised Bangladesh for providing shelter to the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds. Bilateral relations and trade were also discussed in the meeting.

The Prime Minister said that both countries have a lot of potential in expanding and diversifying bilateral trade. Both sides can work on trade facilitation measures.

Mentioning the sanctions and counter-sanctions due to the Russia-Ukraine war, she said the consequences are being suffered by people all over the world.

Referring to the historical relations with Iran, Sheikh Hasina said, many Persian words, numbering about 7 thousand, have been added to the Bengali language.

Both said that Bangladesh and Iran are bound by common cultural ties. At that time, Ambassador at Large Mohammad Ziauddin and Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmad Kaykaus were present.
