Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 24 August 2023: The 19th death anniversary of former President of Women's Awami League Ivy Rahman was observed on Thursday. On August 21, 2004, she was seriously injured in a grenade attack at the Awami League's anti-terror rally in Dhaka. Later, on August 24, the late President Zillur Rahman's wife died after battling for life for three days at Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

On the occasion of his death anniversary, Awami League paid tribute to Ivy Rahman's grave at Banani Cemetery in the morning. Leaders of Central Executive Parliament, President of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League, General Secretary and President and General Secretaries of affiliated organizations participated in it.

IV Rahman was born on July 7, 1944 in a noble family in the city of Bhairab. Her full name is Jebunnah Ivy. 1958 When married to Zillur Rahman, Rahman was added to the name. He passed his secondary examination from Banglabazar School in 1960. She graduated from Eden Women's College in 1969.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md. Atiqul Islam paid tribute by placing wreaths at Ivy Rahman's tomb on Thursday. In the morning, he paid his respects at the capital's Banani cemetery. After paying tribute, DNCC Mayor Ivy visited Rahman's grave and prayed for the forgiveness of his soul.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said that on August 21, 2004, IV Rahman died while undergoing treatment after being seriously injured in a barbaric grenade attack. This barbaric attack was planned under the auspices of the then ruling party. That cannot be the language of any politics, cannot be a political etiquette.

He said that the then ruling party BNP launched this infernal grenade attack to kill Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2004, the mourning month of August 2004, just as the assassins killed Bangabandhu and his family. BNP planned this attack to wipe out Awami League including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. There can never be fair politics by killing people.

The DNCC mayor urged to bring back those involved in the barbaric attacks of August 15, 1975 and August 21, 2004 and implement the verdict quickly.
