Dhaka, April 4: Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman has been released on bail in the Digital Security Act case of Ramna Model Police Station in the capital. He was released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Monday evening. Subhash Kumar Ghosh, senior jail superintendent of the jail, said this.
Earlier, his lawyer applied for bail in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor. After the hearing, the judge granted his bail.
On March 30, Shamsuzzaman was sent to jail by the investigating officer and inspector of Ramna Model Police Station, Abu Anshar. At that time, the lawyer of the accused Prashant Kumar Karmkar applied for bail. On the other hand, the state opposed the bail. After hearing both sides, the court denied his bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier on Wednesday night, a lawyer named Abdul Malek filed a case under the Digital Security Act at the capital's Ramna police station in the name of Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, their Savar reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, associate cameraman and unidentified persons. Ramna Model Police Station claims that Shamsuzzaman has been arrested in that case.
