Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 27: A new political party called Bangladesh Development Party (BDP) has applied for registration with the Election Commission. However, it has been alleged that the group is formed by the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, registration of which has been cancelled by the High Court.

On Wednesday (October 26) at noon, the application form signed by BDP Party General Secretary Md. Kazi Nizamul Haque was submitted to the Election Commission for registration. All the information related to EC conditions are given in the form of annexure with the application.

However, the president of the party, Advocate Anwarul Islam, who went to the Election Commission for registration, denied the allegations of the formation of BDP with the help of Jamaat leaders. After applying for registration, he claimed that they have no connection with Jamaat-e-Islami while talking to reporters.

He said, "Hopefully we will be registered with the Election Commission and get involved in the political process. I am advocate Anwarul Islam Chan party president. The general secretary of my party is Md. Kazi Nizamul Haque. Our party name is Bangladesh Development Party (BDP). We have a new generation with us. We will be more organized and share everything with you, InshAllah."

This leader said, "All of our party are young generation. There are no war criminals here. We have no relation with Jamaat either. I don't want to say anything now. I will tell you the details later. We will make our matter clear."

"We are a new team, new generation. Collected them in different ways. We have worked with them. Here we don't feel coercion or collaboration with any other party. Now if someone says something we have nothing to say about it. At one stage of interrogation by journalists, he said that they have no relation with Jamaat," he said.

Earlier in the morning, Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir said that Jamaat can get EC registration under a different name by fulfilling the conditions.

He said, "If no one of the Jamaat is a war criminal and if their constitution is not in conflict with the constitution, then there is no obstacle to get them registered under a different name by fulfilling the conditions."

Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Founder of Gonoshasthaya Central, feels that whether the Jamaat comes under a new name or not, their first task is to apologize for their role in the 1970s without hiding.
