Japan interested in the operation of third terminal in Bangladesh

Dhaka, 8 October 2023 : Japan has expressed interest in getting the operation and maintenance work of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that discussions are going on with several Japanese companies. Shahriar Alam.

The state minister said these things after a bilateral meeting with Masahiro Okamura, the Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Saturday.

Shahriar Alam said that the Prime Minister has instructed that the design of the third terminal will not only be one of the best in the world in terms of other facilities, but also that the passenger service can be the best in the world.

Regarding the strategic relationship with Japan, the state minister said that the metro rail work is nearing completion. Line 6 will be opened soon. The second terminal was partially inaugurated. Matarbari work is progressing. The Bangabandhu Rail Bridge being constructed over the Yamuna has also progressed. We have discussed that the projects in hand should be completed smoothly on time.

He said, our bilateral relations with Japan have reached new heights and more expectations have been created.

Building on our strategic relationship, being part of a continued collaboration with Japan to make Bangladesh a high-income country by 2041 will be a high priority. For that we discussed how to strengthen bilateral trade.

Regarding the discussion on the Rohingya issue, Shahriar Alam said that Japan needs cooperation on the Rohingya issue. Japan has historical relations with Myanmar. Myanmar currently has a complication due to military rule. We have discussed it in detail.

After the meeting, the Vice Minister of Japan said that Bangladesh is an important country in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent as well as the Indo-Pacific region. Japan is proud to support the third terminal construction project of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The Japanese minister expressed his satisfaction over Bangladesh's sheltering of the Rohingyas. He said, Japan hopes for voluntary, dignified and safe repatriation of Rohingyas. We expect Myanmar to take necessary measures in this regard.
