Dhaka, Sept 15: Expressing hope that the next election will be held in a free, fair and festive atmosphere, Rowshan Ershad, the leader of the opposition party in the Jatiya Sangsad, said that Jatiya Party will participate in the election.

She expressed this hope in the closing speech of the 24th session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

She said that the Jatiya Party is making full preparations to participate in the National Assembly elections. Jatiya Party has been participating in all national elections since its inception. "We have never boycotted elections because we believe in democratic principles. We hope that the upcoming National Assembly elections will be held in a free, fair and festive atmosphere. And the Jatiya Party will participate in that election."

Criticizing the increase in the price of goods, Rowshan Ershad, said that due to the abnormal increase in the price of daily commodities, long queues of low-income people to buy the products of the Food Department's OMS and Government Trading Corporation of Bangladesh-TCB are now a common sight. The middle class is constantly joining this line. If income does not increase, the purchasing power of low-income people will further decrease. They will be more stressed. Hence, inclusive growth is essential now. The scope and growth of social protection programs should be increased. If it is not possible to ensure the social safety net for the entire society from the state level, it is believed that social unrest is going to appear in a new form. She urged the government to take necessary steps for this.

Referring to the saline crisis and public health disaster, she said, "Despite taking many initiatives, the fragile state of our health sector was evident during the Corona pandemic. At present, public and private hospitals are struggling to deal with the dengue situation. Dengue comes and proves that situation again. Saline shortage is disrupting treatment. Although the health minister assured to import saline, there is no hope."

She also said that in a parliamentary democracy, Parliament is the focal point of all state activities. Jatiya Party Parliamentary Party is always playing a sincere and responsible role to make Parliament vibrant, participatory and effective. The 11th National Parliament has conducted 254 working days till the 23rd session and a total of 122 laws have been passed. Opposition MPs attend every session, participate in legislative activities, participate in various discussions including constructive criticism. Various aspects of public interest have been highlighted in this parliament.
