Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury passes away

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 12: Veteran politician, Bangladesh Awami League presidium member, and Jatiya Sangsad deputy leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury is no more (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Sunday (September 11) at 11:40 pm. She was 87.

Faridpur-2 (Nagarkanda, Salta and Sadarpur partial) Member of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was undergoing treatment at Dhaka CMH Hospital for more than a week. Doctors were thinking of allowing her to leave the hospital on September 5 as her condition was improving. But suddenly that day her physical condition deteriorated. At one stage she was not even in normal consciousness.

According to family sources, the body of the deceased was taken from CMH to her constituency Faridpur. Janaza was held there at 11 am at MN Academy ground of Nagarkanda Upazila. After that, the body was brought back to Dhaka from Faridpur and kept at the central Shaheed Minar at 3 pm for general people to pay tributes. After the second Janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, she was buried with state honours at Banani Cemetery.

Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was born on May 8, 1935 in her maternal uncle's house in Magura district. Her father's name was Syed Shah Hamid Ullah and her mother was Syeda Achia Khatun. Sajeda Chowdhury's husband Golam Akbar Chowdhury died in 2015.

President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condoled the death of Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury.
